Five Favorites for Winter

OK I am a sun and sand kinda girl. So saying Winter and Favorites in the same sentence is a stretch for me!! LoL But when I gave it some thought, there were a few things that I could think of as Winter Favorites ...
1.
Fireplace
Euchre Tournament
At the top of my list is our fireplace! We have a wood-burner insert so we enjoy the warmth and coziness that the fire brings on the cold days of Winter ... especially this year!!

2.
"Magical" Snow

Snow
When the snow is falling in large flakes straight down without any breeze, my husband and I call this "magical" snow because it reminds us of those movie scenes when something "exceptional" happens during one of these times of snow. It's hard to capture, but here's a little peek during one of our recent snow storms.
3.
Raspberry Chocolate Hot Cocoa
Euchre Tournament
I am not a coffee lover either. Quite a while ago one of the fast food restaurants had something called White Chocolate Raspberry Cappuccino. I LOVED LOVED it since it was so flavorful, but didn't have any coffee taste as many cappuccinos do. They discontinued it, but I did find something close made by Land-O-Lakes. Treat yourself and give it a try sometime!!
4.
Fresh Snow
Euchre Tournament
A few weeks ago we had ALOT of snow (AGAIN!?! LoL) and it happened to be on a Saturday so we were able to enjoy a walk among the snowflakes. I took this picture near the park in our subdivision. The snow hadn't been "trampled on" yet and was beautiful on the trees.

 5.
Winter Comfort Food

Euchre Tournament
In the Winter one of my favorite things to do is to turn on the oven for an easy Sunday dinner that bakes itself and fills the house with warmth and savory smells! One recipe that I like to make is Spanish Steak. It is shown here displayed on one of my friendly "Let it Snow" snowman placemats which help brighten up our Winter :-)

Spanish Steak

Yum

Euchre Tournament
There is nothing better on a Winter day, especially these COLD ones, than to turn on the oven for Sunday dinner and fill the house with warmth and savory smells .... ahhhh comfort food!! One of my favorite recipes is Spanish Steak. I got this recipe from a good friend over 20 years ago and my family has enjoyed it ever since!

The recipe calls for green pepper, but since we are not fans, I never use the green pepper and it still turns out DELICIOUS!! The tomato soup makes a nice thick gravy that goes great over mashed potatoes.

Spanish Steak

Round Steak (about 1.5-2 pounds, either boneless or with a bone for more flavor)
1 can Tomato soup mixed with 1 can of water
1 medium onion, cut up
4 medium carrots, chopped
1 green pepper, chopped (optional)

1. Cut round steak into serving size pieces (about 2-3 inch squares).

2. Dip pieces of round steak in flour and brown in oil in frying pan. Then transfer to roaster.

3. Mix tomato soup and water in a separate bowl. Add carrots, onion and green pepper to meat and pour tomato soup mixture over meat and veggies.

4. Bake for about 3 hours at 350 degrees. Stir about every half hour. Add additional water if needed.

I like to serve over mashed potatoes as shown in picture.

ENJOY!!

Dessert - Jello Strawberry Parfait

I am always looking for things to add to the FUN of your Euchre Card Party or home Euchre Tournament! Since Valentine's Day is this week, I was thrilled when I discovered this recipe on Pinterest. It is so fancy and fun ... I thought the perfect addition to any Euchre Event, Valentine's Day celebration or something "special" for your sweetie. I'm not very creative on my own, so am thankful to With a Grateful Prayer and a Thankful Heart for creating and sharing this recipe! Her method of assembly - tipping the glasses on their side - for the first layer makes them look so attractive!! With only 3 ingredients, these are so EASY to make ...  a "must try" dessert!!

Appetizer - Taco Heart Ring

To add to the FUN of your Euchre Card Party or home Euchre Tournament, include some FUN food!! Since Valentine's Day is right around the corner, I thought I would post this early in case anyone wanted to use it for a Valentine's Day Euchre Card Party. There is a similar recipe going around the internet, but I think this version I discovered at www.BrandiRaae.com is SO adorable and perfect for a Valentine's Day Appetizer!

Taco Heart Ring
Taco Ring

  • 1/2 lb. of cooked, drained ground beef
  • 1 package of taco seasoning mix
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar
  • 2 Tablespoons water
  • 2 packages refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 1/2 head of lettuce shredded
  • 1 med. tomato, cubed
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 cup salsa
  • sour cream
  • mug, small bowl, or hollowed out green pepper for salsa

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

2. Combine cooked meat, taco seasoning, cheese, and water in bowl.

3. Arrange crescent rolls into a circle (or heart) on baking sheet. (Use round stoneware or flat sheet without edges.) Dough should overlap in center and points should face the outside.

4. Scoop meat mixture over crescent rolls and fold points of triangles over filling and tuck under base at center. Filling will not be completely covered.
5. Bake 20-25 minutes.

6. When it is done, put container of salsa in the center and mound lettuce, tomato, and onion around it. Garnish with sour cream or use as a side. Makes about 8 servings.

ENJOY!!
