NEW & IMPROVED Euchre Rotation Charts

When I first started EuchreFun.com, I published the Euchre Rotation Charts that I had been using for my group until we started having over 20 players. For my Euchre groups we deal around twice, so 12 games are more than sufficient for the time that we have to play. Thus most of my Euchre Rotation Charts only went up to 12 games. Since then, I have found that some of my readers have different preferences. So ...

I have redone all of my Euchre Rotation Charts to better meet everyone's needs :-) The more players there are, the more complicated they get! So MANY thanks again to my husband who is a Microsoft Excel "expert" ... I could not have done this without him!!

For the NEW & IMPROVED Euchre Rotation Charts - if you play all the games on the chart:
  • Players will not have the same player as a partner more than once
  • Players will have every other player as a partner if you play all the games for 8, 9, 12, 13, 16, 17 & 20 player rotation charts. This is not possible in the other rotation charts because of sit outs.
  • When possible, players will sit out the same number of times
  • Usually, if possible, players will not be at the same table more than twice in a row.

My Euchre Rotation Charts are generic so can be used as is with no extra effort involved. I added additional games to many of the Euchre Rotation Charts so that players would have every other player as a partner. Some of my readers prefer to only deal around once and play more games so that players will have every other player as a partner. Feel free to use the charts as they best meet your needs.

Click links above to print the Euchre Rotation Charts. (After opening PDF page, click printer icon to print.) The Euchre Rotation Charts and other printables for your Euchre Tournament or home Euchre card party are available on the Euchre Printables page.

If you have more than 20 players, check out some other options for assigning Euchre partners for a larger group.

Euchre Tournament

General Euchre Rules

Euchre Card Game Rules
There are many variations of Euchre Rules! I have had some requests for a list of Euchre Rules ... Some people like to have a list of Euchre Rules available for players. Below are the "general" Euchre Rules that I would suggest for social Euchre Parties or casual Euchre Tournaments using my Euchre Printables. If you are having a more "serious" Euchre Tournament, I would recommend looking at the Official Rules of Euchre Tournaments.

These General Euchre Rules assume knowledge of How to Play Euchre. There are links below if you need additional explanation or want to alter this list for your own Euchre event.

  • Each player will play for themselves.

  • For each round, each player deals twice for a total of 8 hands.

  • Table Score Sheets are used at tables to keep score.
Player to left of scorekeeper starts deal.   Last deal is scorekeeper.

  • If the number of people playing is not a multiple of 4, some players will sit out each round. You may sit out only once. You will receive 8 points for the rounds that you sit out.

  • Scoring:
1 point for 3 tricks, 2 points for 5 tricks
2 points for a Renege, 2 points for a Euchre
4 points for "loner”, 2 points for Euchre on a “loner”
(Another option: player calling the loner gets 5 points & partner gets 4 points)
For Loners: 2 points for Euchre, 4 points for Renege

  • "Stick the dealer" applies. Dealer must choose trump if everyone else declines.

  • A card laid is a card played. Once it leaves your fingers, it cannot be switched.

  • A player may order, assist, or pick up with anything (a natural trump is not required).

  • Please no table talk of any kind. ie no giving players any indication of what cards a player holds.

  • We will pay top 3 places. If there is a tie, pots will be split evenly among winners.

10/13 Euchre ... Tuesday Tip

I thought it would be FUN to have Tuesday Tips to share some interesting Euchre tips ... of course on Tuesdays!

When possible, lead big.

Euchre TournamentLead with a singleton off-suit ace, if you have one. If no other cards of that suit are in your hand, there is a higher probability that they are in your opponents’ hands, preventing them from trumping your ace. On the opening lead is your best chance for an ace to make it around the table and win a trick.

If you have more than one other card of the same suit as an ace, do not lead with that ace. With only six cards in a suit, if three of them are in your hand, chances are good that one of your opponents will be void in that suit and can trump your ace. Pay special attention to the “next” suit, the same-color suit as trump. Since the left bower switches suits, this suit only has five cards, and thus even if you hold only an ace and one other card in that suit, leading the ace will often be an invitation for your opponents to trump you. In this case, save your ace for later and hope it can win a trick once trump is all drawn out.

Keep in mind even with these considerations, your ace has a better chance of getting trumped if your opponents have called trump.

9/29 Euchre ... Tuesday Tip

I thought it would be FUN to have Tuesday Tips to share some interesting Euchre tips ... of course on Tuesdays!

You actually shouldn’t “always count on your partner for at least one trick.”

Euchre TournamentThis one’s a myth you’ll hear from all levels of players. The thought is that regardless of what you call for trump, your partner should have at least a high enough card to take a trick. Let’s face it though, the Euchre fairy can be fickle! Even when you have a couple of aces in your hand, depending on where the lead comes from (anywhere but immediately to your left), you just don’t know what the next player has. And unfortunately, sometimes your partner doesn't have "anything" of much value to help you.

Counting on a partner for at least one trick has burned many great euchre players. Calling trump on this myth could lead to you getting Euchred.

How to Assign Partners for more than 20 Euchre Players

I have received MANY emails from people asking how to assign partners for their Euchre Tournament or Euchre Party when they have more than 20 players. Creating Euchre Rotation Charts for more than 20 people starts to get complicated. So originally I created and posted Rotation Charts for up to 20 players. However, since I have been in the same situation of having more than 20 players, I had to come up with other alternatives for assigning players for Euchre Tournaments. Whether you use the cards or chips below, for a large group, it works better if you pass them out and then collect them from the tables and then re-pass them out to the tables. There is less confusion when what the players need is right there on their table.

Euchre Rotation
One alternative is using cards to assign Euchre partners. This is a good option if you have 9 tables or less or want to assign the Jack through the Ace as table labels. You have 2 red cards and 2 black cards for each table.  You can lay the cards face down and have players chose the cards to determine their partner for each game. The two players with the red cards with the same number are partners at that table and the two players with the black cards with the same number are partners. One of the groups I attended used Giant Playing Cards so the cards to assign partners would not get confused with the cards used for playing.  Using cards is an easy alternative.

Euchre Rotation

Another alternative is poker chips.  For each table, you have 4 chips: 2 red and 2 blue with the table number on the chips. Players chose a chip for each game and the two players with the red chips with the same table number are partners and the two players with the blue chips with the same table number are partners. Since chips are more durable than cards, this is a good alternative for a group that meets regularly.

Euchre rotation for large groups
Another alternative for rotating Euchre partners for a VERY large group is rotating by tables. There are different ways of doing this, but this method seems the easiest to me. With a large group, everyone chooses a spot to play the first game. At the end of each game, the partners with the least points (the losers) stay at that table and become opponents for the next game. The partners with the most points (the winners) get up and move (winners "walk" is an easy hint of who moves to the next table) and then become opponents for the next game. If there is a tie score, each team can draw a card and the team with the highest card would move to the next table. Before the winners move to the next table, each partner picks a card. So there will be a Winner-high card and a Winner-low card player and a Loser-high card and a Loser-low card player. When the winners move to the next table the Winner-high card will be partners with the Loser-high card player and the Winner-low card will be partners with the Loser-low card player. In this method, it is important that the tables are numbered and in order so the teams can easily move to the next table. (Image from http://www.ca.class.posot.com)

Sit Outs
If the number of players is not a multiple of 4, there will be players that will have to sit out some games. In most of my groups we deal around 8 times per game and players receive 7 points when they sit out. To assign sit outs, have a card or chip which says "sit out" if you are using one of these alternatives to assign partners. If the teams are moving tables, the players coming from the highest number table will become sit outs and the sit outs will re-enter the game at Table 1.
